Life Story for Margaret Emilie Pauline Voelker (Knott)

VOELKER: Margaret Emilie Pauline Knott, a former longtime resident of Lindenhurst, Long Island, NY passed away peacefully March 24, she was 105 years old.

Margaret was born in Astoria, Queens, NY on March 14, 1913 to loving parents Joseph Knott and Selma Schmidt. She was the youngest of 7 children: Walter, Selma, Eleanor, Joseph, Alfred and Richard all of whom predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her devoted husband of 55 years, William Chester Voelker.

Margaret is survived by her daughters Marilyn Heins (Richard) and Valerie Kerbler (Thomas); five grand-children Laura Heins, Susan Weber (Mark), Barbara Poliwoda (Ken), Janine Hopkins (Tony), Jenifer Boling (Chris) and 9 great-grandchildren, Alex, Jenna, Sarah, Charlie, Olivia, Julia, Nicholas, Erica and Thomas.

Margaret moved from Astoria to Lindenhurst on Long Island in 1931 at age 18. In 1933, Margaret met her future husband William at a dance in Massapequa, New York. Married on October 13, 1934, the new couple would move to their home on Delta Street where they raised their family. In 1971, the couple relocated to Deerfield Beach, Florida until the passing of her husband William in 1989. She briefly resided in Pennsylvania and North Carolina until her final residence at the Worthington Christian Village near Columbus, Ohio where she served as a hall monitor for 7 years.

Margaret was a lifelong and active member of the Lutheran Church and an 85-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
